Building works<\/strong><\/p>\n

Anyone driving, cycling or walking along Unity Drive will have seen the site huts, fencing and tradies\u2019 vehicles opposite Club Armstrong.<\/p>\n

Preliminary works for the construction of the much-anticipated Armstrong West Primary School are now underway and the school is scheduled to open for business at the start of the 2020 school year.<\/p>\n

The $20 million Armstrong West Primary will take 475 pupils and its arrival has been hastened by Villawood\u2019s sale to the State Government of the 2.4-hectare site earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Education Minister James Merlino was on site for the turning of the first sod recently.<\/p>\n

He assured the Armstrong community \u201cthis will be an incredible local school that will provide the community the first-rate education facilities they deserve\u201d.<\/p>\n

As he says, it\u2019s all about delivering an exciting primary school so families can access a great local school as the population in Armstrong continues to grow.<\/p>\n

Wetlands action<\/strong><\/p>\n

Elsewhere around Armstrong, locals will find preliminary works getting underway on the dining precinct at Armstrong Boulevard.<\/p>\n

Overlooking wetlands and the brilliant nature-inspired artwork of Villawood\u2019s resident sculptor Folko Kooper, this is one of the most exciting projects within Armstrong.<\/p>\n

Folko\u2019s giant pelicans and birdhouses rise from the wetlands adjoining Armstrong Creek in front of this exciting precinct. If you look carefully in the coming month you\u2019ll see the nesting season getting under way.<\/p>\n

Look out for fledglings, especially wood ducks, corellas, Major Mitchell cockatoos, rosellas and lorikeets and even boobook owls.<\/p>\n

New school head<\/strong><\/p>\n

Armstrong\u2019s Geelong Lutheran College has a new and inspiring head in Jill Lange-Mohr, who recently took up the position as the second college principal.<\/p>\n

A Queensland Telstra Businesswoman of the Year (2002), Jill was founding principal of St Peters Lutheran College, a K-12 College in Springfield, Queensland, where she has worked since 2007.<\/p>\n

The college is delighted to have Jill on board, both at Armstrong Creek and St John\u2019s in Newtown, and says the community will love the warmth and positivity she brings to her role.<\/p>\n
