THE Christian College Geelong (CCG) Eagles Basketball Club celebrated its 25th anniversary at the weekend with a family-fun afternoon.<\/p>\n
Attending the celebrations at AWA Stadium was Jamie O\u2019Loughlin, who last week re-signed with the Cairns Taipans, as first assistant to the head coach.<\/p>\n
Supercats players Nick Owusu, Nathan Friend and Liam McInerney were also in attendance as well as Supercats head coach and Christian College teacher Leon O\u2019Neill.<\/p>\n
Daryl Riddle, Sue Wright and Jamie O\u2019Loughlin were inducted as inaugural \u201cCCG Eagles Life Members\u201d<\/p>\n
The Eagles Basketball team was founded by Daryl Riddle OAM (Christian College Geelong chief executive officer) in 1993.<\/p>\n
Together with the inaugural president Bruce Horman and administrator Sue Wright, the club started from humble beginnings with just six teams and 52 players.<\/p>\n
The Eagles has since grown to an impressive 53 teams with a total of 435 players.<\/p>\n
The CCG Eagles have fostered many success stories, including players receiving scholarships to Division 1 USA Colleges.<\/p>\n
Lead by head coach Olivia Cameron, players as young as 5 through to the Senior Men\u2019s Division in their 40s all love the sense of community and opportunity the Christian College Geelong Eagles Basketball Club brings every week to come together and compete.<\/p>\n
The club continues to grow and in summer 18\/19 the Eagles will enter a Division 1 Women\u2019s Team to the competition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
