STUDENTS from St Ignatius College\u2019s Drysdale campus recently put their English skills to the test during a competition, ranking number one in the state.<\/p>\n
The school competed in the Education Perfect English World Challenge, which took place from July 25 to August 1.<\/p>\n
Students enjoyed the competition while improving their skills in spelling, grammar and punctuation, placing sixth in Australia and 10th in the world.<\/p>\n
Five students, in particular, did an amazing job, earning Emerald Awards \u2013 they were Janelle Nichols, Charlie Smale, Tess Craven, Emily Allan and Riley Theilemann.<\/p>\n
Alexander Cumming won an iTunes voucher for his efforts.<\/p>\n
English teacher Samantha Windmill said the competition was important because it encouraged the students to hone their English skills in all aspects of the study.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are encouraged to think about the conventions of the language and it reinforces what they know and, more importantly, what they need to learn,\u201d Ms Windmill said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur College educates the whole person and it is important that our students are able to articulate their views.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey will only be able to do this if they have strong language skills.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe take the learning of the skills associated with the English language very seriously and encourage all our students to challenge themselves and what better than to see how we compare with the rest of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
