IN the shadow of the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing in early August, Surf City USA\u2019s Main Street was blocked off to honour the 25th class of inductees to the Surfing Walk of Fame.<\/p>\n
Through a selection ballot, a host of respected surf industry veterans, former professionals and surf journalists narrowed down a field of hundreds of candidates to just seven \u2013 one of which was three-time World Champion Mick Fanning.<\/p>\n
Inducted as the Surf Champion alongside other icons like Stephanie Gilmore, Bob McKnight and more, Mick Fanning\u2019s star on the Surfing Walk of Fame will live on in surfing history forever.<\/p>\n
Mick was unable to attend the ceremony, but made sure his appreciation was heartfelt.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to thank everyone for inducting me into the Surfing Walk of Fame,\u201d Mick said, over a video recorded from his home on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very honoured. I\u2019m also deeply honoured to be alongside all the greats of US and international surfing.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Surfing Walk of Fame is the only tribunal in surfing to award specific categories as well as require a 10-year margin since the commemorating achievement.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s recipients will be cemented alongside past inductees, earning their immortal place in the pavement on the corner of PCH and Main Street, directly across from the famous pier in Surf City USA – Huntington Beach, California.<\/p>\n
Past recipients of the Surfing Walk of Fame honours include Duke Kahanamoku, Kelly Slater, Lisa Anderson, Tom Curren, Bruce Brown, Eddie Aikau and more.<\/p>\n
