LIBERAL Candidate for Bellarine Brian McKiterick met with Curlewis residents at the weekend to support their campaign for traffic lights to be installed at a dangerous intersection.<\/p>\n
Mr McKiterick braved wet and windy weather on Sunday morning to listen to the concerns of locals pushing for the lights at the corner of Portarlington and Hermsley roads.<\/p>\n
His visit comes after local David Thomson launched the \u201cBetter Traffic Management at Hermsley\/Curlewis Roads Intersection\u201d petition on change.org in August, which has now attracted more than 140 signatures.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is well-known that the Hermsley\/Curlewis roads intersection is highly dangerous and unsafe,\u201d Mr Thomson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis has been made worse by a set of traffic lights 100 metres up from the intersection that Lisa Neville installed for the rail trail users, even though a vast majority decide not to use them.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is always trouble for road users trying to enter the highway at this intersection. Several complaints to Lisa Neville have resulted in nothing happening.\u201d<\/p>\n
The residents say several accidents have already occurred at the intersection of Portarlington and Hermsley roads, and that it\u2019s only a matter of time before someone dies.<\/p>\n
