SIMON Ramsay has applauded a $24 million boost to security through CCTV cameras, lights and fences if the Liberal National government is elected in November.<\/p>\n
Mr Ramsay, the Liberal Member for Western Victoria who will not contest the next election following a drink-driving charge, is calling on the Borough of Queenscliffe, City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire and other local community groups to seize the opportunity if the Coalition is voted into power.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know there are businesses in Drysdale and on the Bellarine, as well as Geelong West and Lara that would benefit from these grants of up to $250,000, including a number
\nof Neighbourhood Watch programs around Geelong,\u201d Mr Ramsay said.<\/p>\n
Opposition leader Matthew Guy said that passive security was needed to improve safety, deter break-ins and theft and that a Liberal National government would do all it can to provide a greater level of prevention and security for those shopping strips. \u201cIt\u2019s the biggest investment of its kind in Victoria\u2019s history and goes a long way in helping councils and communities to keep their suburban and country shopping strips safer,\u201d Mr Guy said.<\/p>\n
