{"id":15015,"date":"2018-09-12T05:39:09","date_gmt":"2018-09-12T05:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=15015"},"modified":"2018-09-14T02:28:33","modified_gmt":"2018-09-14T02:28:33","slug":"at-home-with-les-watson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/real-estate\/at-home-with-les-watson\/","title":{"rendered":"At Home with Les Watson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>INTERVIEW AND PHOTOS: JAMES TAYLOR<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Les Watson is probably the most organised person you\u2019ll ever meet.<\/p>\n<p>Les is a familiar face to small businesses across Geelong and the Surf Coast through his long involvement with business groups such as Torquay Commerce and Tourism, Entrepreneurs Geelong, and Technology Geelong.<\/p>\n<p>He has worked extensively throughout Australia and South East Asia running dynamic training programs that have produced measurable results for large corporations, small businesses and individuals. His depth of knowledge and skill come from more than 30 years\u2019 experience as a trainer, speaker and facilitator in self-management, motivation and communication techniques, earning him the nickname<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTime Lord\u201d. He now runs a business called Get More Time.<\/p>\n<p>My Coastal Home visited Les at his home in Armstrong Creek.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Born<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>I was born in Launceston, Tasmania. I grew up in a hotel, the Tamar Hotel, opposite the Boags brewery. People often ask me \u201cWas it great growing up in a hotel?\u201d and I always say \u201cNo, it\u2019s not the life for a child to be growing up in a pub\u201d. I left Tasmania and went via Bendigo to Sydney, where I spent 30 years.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Family<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>I met my wife, Merry \u2013 the bonus was she came with a two-year-old, Micaela (now 31). We had Nicholas (now 23), left Sydney and settled in Torquay because Merry\u2019s mum lives here.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Being an author<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Between us we have now written three books. Merry\u2019s first was a book on relationships, which we are about to rewrite, together. The third was mine but the second was Antonio\u2019s Seed, by Merry, which, after winning some literary awards, is to be made into a film later this year. Get Back An Hour In Every Day It took me about 18 months to write. There are more than 162 tips on how to be more productive. It\u2019s the A to Z of being productive. Most people struggle with time \u2013 we don\u2019t come across a lot of people who say \u201cI\u2019ve got heaps of time; take some of mine\u201d. It\u2019s normally \u201cI\u2019ve got too much to do, full stop\u201d, \u201cthere\u2019s not enough time in the day, I don\u2019t know where to start\u201d, \u201cI\u2019m drowning in paperwork\u201d, \u201cI don\u2019t have time for\u2026\u201d I can give you back one hour a day. If you\u2019re breathing, you need time management. Put simply, if you are not in control of your time, it will affect your enjoyment of life.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Diary<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>I can\u2019t live without my diary system. I\u2019ve had one for 33 years, and never lost one. They have changed covers over the years but the underlying diary principles remain the same.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Cycling<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Growing up in a hotel in an industrial part of town, there was not a lot to do. So my bike was my escape. I\u2019ve had a bike all my life. There is nothing better than an hour or two of being on the bike. I love it. Yes, lycra, because it\u2019s easier. The best time to ride would have to be between four and five in the morning in the dark \u2013 not a lot of traffic, and I get to watch the world come alive.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Relaxing with Merry<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>How do I relax? With Merry, watching TV. Not just any TV but a good series like Rake, Suits, Designated Survivor, House of Cards, The IT Crowd or Lano and Woodley. And on a Saturday morning, buying the papers, reading them and completing the Sudoku and crossword puzzles.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Work<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>I\u2019m a publican\u2019s son, so the mindset is \u201chow can I help? Come and have fun, come and let\u2019s get together over something\u201d. In Torquay (with Torquay Commerce and Tourism), it was breakfasts \u2013 \u201cthis event is the best thing since sliced bread\u201d and the majority of them have been \u2013 so I\u2019m going \u201ccome on, you\u2019ve got to get involved!\u201d so it\u2019s connecting people, it\u2019s having a good time.
