THE Torquay Tornadoes finished off another great season with four teams making it to Hockey Geelong grand finals and two wins to the Division 1 Men and Under 14 mixed teams.<\/p>\n
The Division 1 Men\u2019s team headed into the game as favourites after finishing clear leaders in the season.<\/p>\n
The game was tough early with opposition Saints working hard to fend off Torquay.<\/p>\n
In the second half Torquay took complete control of the game to win 6-0. Goal scorers were Ryan Parry 2, Jayden Schram 2, Zakhele Stevens 1, and Liam Kerr- Nelson 1.<\/p>\n
The highlight of the day was the Torquay Tornadoes under 14 mixed team. Torquay played Geelong who were undefeated in the season before finals.<\/p>\n
The game was super tight with Torquay defending out numerous attacks from Geelong, with the game going to a 0-0 all draw at full time. The game then went to extra time before a penalty shoot out.<\/p>\n
The Torquay team was a mix of boys and girls with Geelong having the majority of boys.<\/p>\n
In the shootout it was girl power that won the day for Torquay, with Ellie Samsa converting both of her shoot out opportunities.<\/p>\n
The other star on the day was Bosco Edwards as goalkeeper.<\/p>\n
Bosco had no field goals scored against him throughout the finals and had some sensational saves.<\/p>\n
He was brilliant in the shoot out where Torquay won 4-3. The goal scorers for Torquay were Ellie Samsa 2, Will Thompson 1, and Olly Harris 1.<\/p>\n
In the other grand finals, the Torquay Tornadoes under 17 mixed team unfortunately lost 2-1 to Newtown.<\/p>\n
Torquay were the best team all year finishing on top of the ladder but just couldn\u2019t finish off with the flag.<\/p>\n
The single goal scorer was Jayden Schram.<\/p>\n
The Division 1 Women also played in the grand final however they lost 0-6 to Geelong.<\/p>\n
The grand final day featured individual success stories, with Olivia Jenkins being awarded the 2018 Hockey Geelong John Stephenson Memorial Junior Trophy for demonstrating dedication, consistency, effort and achievement and sportsmanship on and off the field.<\/p>\n
Olivia\u2019s achievements this year included playing in the Hockey Geelong Women\u2019s Premier League, Torquay Division 1, Geelong Regional Representative U16 team, Torquay under 17 team, Western Metropolitan Wildcats U16 representative team, plus umpiring Torquay under 14s, and she was the 2017 Presidents Award winner for the Torquay Hockey Club.<\/p>\n
The awards kept coming on the day with Emmaline Moore winning the competition best and fairest for Division 1 Women.<\/p>\n
This is the 6th time Emmaline has won this award and Reece Shand winning best on ground for the Division 1 Men\u2019s grand final.<\/p>\n
