THE Indented Head community is celebrating following news their muchloved hall will receive a $250,000 upgrade.<\/p>\n
Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville announced the state government grant earlier this week, which will be used to remove and replace the asbestos roofing and external walls of the hall, which is managed by Bellarine Bayside.<\/p>\n
Ms Neville said the community hall was an important part of community life in Indented Head and had been serving the town for more than 60 years.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs local member, I am well aware that the Indented Head Community Hall is much-loved and utilised and has played a significant role in the history of the town,\u201d Ms Neville said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver recent times, the local community has raised with me their concerns that the hall was in need of upgrade and I am pleased that having raised this matter on their behalf within government, this important funding has now been delivered.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Neville said the hall over the decades had been the home to many community groups and that this was still the case today.<\/p>\n
Groups like the Indented Head Boat Club and Yacht Club, the St Leonards Film Society, walking group \u201cLocomote\u201d, the Greek Orthodox Association, and importantly the Indented Head Community Association use the hall regularly.<\/p>\n
In addition, it is used for yoga and Pilates classes, local social functions and community meetings.<\/p>\n
\u201cI commend the Indented Head Community Association, other user groups and Bellarine Bayside on their ongoing work in ensuring the hall continues to be the focal point of town life,\u201d Ms Neville said. \u201cI now look forward to the upgrade of the hall, knowing it will serve the community well for many decades to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
The funding announcement comes after locals applied for $200,000 funding for \u201cThe Indented Head Community Hall Asbestos Removal Project\u201d through the state government\u2019s Pick My Project initiative, with the project recently making it to voting stage.<\/p>\n
If the project is successful, the $200,000 will constitute the balance of money required to undertake the hall roof works, but if unsuccessful, Bellarine Bayside will be required to make up the difference.<\/p>\n
MEANWHILE, the state government is providing an additional $1.2 million investment for the Queenscliff Cultural Hub, to create the multi-use facility the community wants.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
