POINT Lonsdale Tennis Club was a winner off the court last week after receiving $250,000 funding to cater for the future demands of its rapidly expanding community.<\/p>\n
Club members, Borough of Queenscliffe councillors and representatives from Tennis Victoria turned out on Thursday to hear Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville\u2019s funding announcement, which will help boost the club by upgrading two courts to artificial grass, add LED lighting and importantly upgrade the ageing clubrooms, including provision for disability access.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Point Lonsdale Tennis Club is a great club that has been an important part of the Point Lonsdale community since its establishment in 1931,\u201d Ms Neville said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe club is going from strength to strength and currently has more than 600 members.<\/p>\n
\u201cI take this opportunity to congratulate the club on not only winning this funding, but for their work in managing what is a much-respected club.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have been proud to have worked with, and supported the club, in gaining this funding and congratulate long-time President Ian Britton and all members for their work.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Britton described the funding as \u201cvery exciting news\u201d and said it would enable their vibrant club to maintain its status as a leading country club in the state.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis redevelopment will open up our facilities to the locals, and sporting clubs bring communities together and that\u2019s what we are really hoping to do,\u201d Mr Britton said.<\/p>\n
The $250,000 funding came from the State Government\u2019s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Tennis Victoria has presented Point Lonsdale as one of its Top 50 Clubs.<\/p>\n
For the 2017\/18 year, the club was ranked 31st based on the number of unique participants registered in the period July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018<\/p>\n
