AFTER guaranteeing promotion to Division 2 for the 2019 season, the Bellarine Sharks had their shot at further glory by claiming the premiership cup.<\/p>\n
But even though they fell short, losing 2-1 to the Corio Bay Cobras, all members were extremely proud of their efforts.<\/p>\n
In a high-pressure match, both teams didn\u2019t give an inch in the first half, with both keepers being very active to keep the score nil all at the half.<\/p>\n
After the break the game opened with both teams scoring within five minutes of each other including an absolute bullet by Sharks substitute Jad Aleskafi.<\/p>\n
With the scores 1-1 at the end of regulation time, the game moved into extra time. Just before the end of the second half of extra time a pin-point cross found an open man for the Cobras to take the lead and keep it until the final whistle.<\/p>\n
Even though it wasn\u2019t the Sharks\u2019 day, Coach Steve D\u2019Acunto was proud of his team even though they fell short.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe recruited nine new players, earned an extra 17 points, won promotion and made the grand final,\u201d D\u2019Acunto said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo even though we are disappointed with the result, I couldn\u2019t ask anymore from such as great group of players.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the day, Frank Pavez was man of the match for the sharks and was well supported by Darcy Hall and Pierre Grzybek.<\/p>\n
D\u2019Acunto said the Sharks would be looking to field two senior Men\u2019s teams and a Women\u2019s team in 2019.<\/p>\n
