THE City of Greater Geelong has released its 2017-18 Annual Report.<\/p>\n
The report provides an account of the council\u2019s performance from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018, including details of community services, events, activities and infrastructure delivered during the past year.<\/p>\n
The city has cited some highlights under the council\u2019s four strategic directions in the report, including:
\n\u2022 Community Wellbeing – secured more than $1 million in State and Federal Government funding for sport and recreation infrastructure upgrades
\n\u2022 Growing Our Economy – support for more than 20 major events, including Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, Festival of Sails, Archibald Prize exhibition and Geelong After Dark
\n\u2022 Sustainable Built and Natural Environment – installed solar systems at Leisurelink Aquatic Centre, Bellarine Aquatic and Sports Centre and Corio Depot
\n\u2022 How We Do Business – supported the Revitalising Central Geelong project, including delivery of capital works for the Little Malop Street Laneways and Malop Street Green Spine construction.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring the past year there has been considerable change at the City, including the successful return of Council and changes ensuring good governance is embedded in the way we work,\u201d City of Geelong chief executive officer Martin Cutter said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWork has also continued on the Transformation Program, following the 2016 Commission of Inquiry, to transform the city into the most efficient and effective organisation possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast year our investments included $78 million on community facilities and infrastructure, $3.6 million on priority community projects, the ongoing redevelopment of Central Geelong and $6.3 million in grants to community organisations.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an exciting time for our city with significant opportunities for growth, such as transitioning into advanced manufacturing, opening the international airport at Avalon and capitalising on our UNESCO City of Design credentials.\u201d<\/p>\n
The council will discuss the annual report at its next meeting at City Hall on October 23.<\/p>\n
