SURF Coast FC will launch the first club-based football academy in the region later this year, which has attracted the backing of prominent businessman Frank Costa.<\/p>\n
The new Surf Coast FC Academy program was recently unveiled at Costa\u2019s Geelong office.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast FC president Steve Christou announced that the ex-Geelong Cats president and unofficial Mayor of Geelong had been named the Academy\u2019s Ambassador.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur new Senior coach and former Academy Technical Director of A-League club Newcastle Jets\u2019 Mike Cooper will be director of football, while Frank joins as Academy Ambassador,\u201d Mr Christou said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is a great supporter of the Surf Coast and Geelong community and we are thankful for his support.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis as a massive opportunity for our club and players in the area, with many travelling to Melbourne to attend similar types of academies. They now have a local opportunity to be coached by one of the best junior development coaches in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the coming weeks, we will be running a small program to showcase what the Academy and Michael can offer.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Costa said he was \u201cvery proud to have been asked to be an ambassador for the new Surf Coast Football Club Academy. It\u2019s a great opportunity to bring sport to the community in a fast-growing area\u201d.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast Academy dates begin on October 30, with girls welcome at all sessions.<\/p>\n

Michael will also be running a mini roos program on Saturdays from October 20: 4-6 years group 9am-10am; 7-9 years group 10am-11am.<\/p>\n
