A TURNING of the first sod has marked the start of construction of St Ignatius College\u2019s new gymnasium.<\/p>\n
Bellarine MP Lisa Neville joined college principal Michael Exton and board chair Tony Frizza, along with the school community on Friday to mark the milestone event.<\/p>\n
The state government is contributing $2million to the $8.56 million construction project.<\/p>\n
Commercial Industrial Construction Group has been appointed to build the new gymnasium, which will include two additional courts, three learning spaces, change rooms, staff offices and storage areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cI congratulate them and the entire school community on the planning, funding and now construction of their new gymnasium, which will serve the school well for many years to come,\u201d Ms Neville said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Bellarine is blessed to have quality schools right across the peninsula and St Ignatius is no exception.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Exton said he was grateful for those who attended the sod turning to join in the school\u2019s excitement for what promised to be a wonderful new addition to their site.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday as we look forward to the commencement of our new multipurpose centre, we celebrate the commencement of construction with gratitude,\u201d Mr Exton said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have waited a while for this project and I want to thank everyone for their patience.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe additional facilities and amenities this project will provide will enhance our student outcomes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe multipurpose centre will also provide additional sporting facilities which could be used by the community, as is the case with many of our current facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
