LOCAL organisations, councils and community groups across the Geelong region have one more month to apply for a share in $200 million of grant funding through the Building Better\u00a0Regions Fund.<\/p>\n
Initiated by the Australian Government, the $641.6 million Building Better Regions Fund has been set up to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities.<\/p>\n
There are two streams of funding available \u2013 the Community Investments stream which funds community activities, new local events and regional strategic plans; and the Infrastructure Projects stream to supports the construction of new infrastructure, or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure that provide economic and social benefits.<\/p>\n
Each stream funds projects and initiatives from $5,000 up to $10 million.<\/p>\n
Regional Development Australia (RDA) Barwon South West chair Bruce Anson said the fund would get projects off the ground and help the region achieve fantastic economic outcomes.<\/p>\n
\u201cMore than $11.1 million has already been allocated to infrastructure and community projects through Rounds One and Two, which is a big win for our region.\u201d<\/p>\n
These projects included $245,500 towards the upgrade of community hall in Birregurra, $5,000,000 towards three new multi-purpose indoor sports courts at Surf Coast Secondary College and $360,500 towards a warm season turf pitch at Banyul Warri Fields in Torquay.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow that Round Three funding has opened, we\u2019re calling on not-for-profit organisations and agencies to apply for a grant to channel more investment in our local economy.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said Round Three had a big focus on tourism with $45 million earmarked for infrastructure projects that will help stimulate local economies.<\/p>\n
