THE Colac Otway Shire is providing a new opportunity for community members to have an active role in helping improve the municipality’s road network.<\/p>\n
Shire mayor Joe McCracken said the establishment of the Colac Otway Roads Advisory Committee provided a great opportunity to bring together community members and relevant road authority representatives to make a difference.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know there are concerns with the condition of roads, which are critical both socially and economically for our region\u2019s growth, and we are focused on improving all roads for all road users.<\/p>\n
\u201cColac Otway Shire Council is responsible for maintenance of 557 kilometres of sealed roads, 1,014 kilometres of gravel roads and a further 48 kilometres of formed roads.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe primary responsibility of the Colac Otway Roads Advisory Committee will be to provide feedback to Council in relation to the strategic management of Council\u2019s road assets.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil believes a Roads Advisory Committee will be an effective method of receiving feedback from the community and stakeholders relying on Council\u2019s road network.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cr Jason Schram said that while road safety would be a key focus, the committee would also aim to improve management of the road network as a whole.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe look forward to hearing from local residents who have knowledge of the Colac Otway Shire road network, and the challenges involved with the shire\u2019s topography and climate.\u201d<\/p>\n
