THE Borough of Queenscliffe has secured $495,000 funding to deliver three separate road improvement project and to plan for another.<\/p>\n
Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville announced the first round funding last week through the $100 million Fixing Country Roads Program.<\/p>\n
Bowen Road at Point Lonsdale will be widened, and the shoulders of the road sealed to create safe and efficient street parking adjacent to Point Lonsdale Primary School.<\/p>\n
In Queenscliff, the road will be widened at Larkin Parade and Bridge Street to provide a dedicated bike connection for the Rail Trail to the harbour and ferry service.<\/p>\n
A $15,000 grant has also been provided to design a safe shared pathway for the 1.4km length of Murray Road \u2013 boosting active transport in the town.<\/p>\n
On top of these improvements, the intersection of Milne Court and Ocean Road at Point Lonsdale will be sealed, and drainage improved to stop future instances of the road flooding in wet weather.<\/p>\n
The Borough of Queenscliff will deliver these local road upgrades by June 2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re fixing the roads that need it most in Bellarine \u2013 getting people where they need to go safer and sooner,\u201d Ms Neville said.<\/p>\n
\u201cLabor\u2019s Fixing Country Roads Fund will ensure council managed roads, like those in the Bellarine
\naren\u2019t left behind and are safe and reliable.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince coming to office we\u2019ve doubled spending on road maintenance to make sure that regional Victorians get the road works they need.\u201d<\/p>\n
Round two of the Fixing Country Roads Program will open in early 2019 with an additional $70 million available to councils with eligible projects.<\/p>\n
