THE Bellarine Catchment Network (BCN) is a non-for-profit, non-government environmental organisation based on the Bellarine Peninsula. The Network has supported and worked alongside schools, environment groups, community organisations and land managers for 21 years.<\/p>\n
BCN president Steve Boothroyd stated: \u201cEvery year we engage with over 25 primary, secondary and tertiary institutions helping deliver their environmental days that are tailored to their curriculum. We work in collaboration with over 25 different groups, organisations and land managers in diverse project areas such as litter monitoring, habitat protection and enhancement, citizen science, coastal restoration, sand monitoring, education and awareness raising.\u201d<\/p>\n
These projects occur at locations such as the Bellarine Rail Trail, foreshore reserves, wetlands, waterways and coastal areas.<\/p>\n
Program manager Matt Crawley stated: \u201cYou will often see us at events such as the Queenscliff Music Festival, the Wreck2Reef Swim and Portarlington Mussel Festival where we distribute educational materials, engage with the community and highlight the environmental values of the Bellarine.\u201d<\/p>\n
The network is consistently growing with the addition of new projects, resources and staff each year which is overseen by a volunteer committee.<\/p>\n
Each month will showcase a different\u00a0environmental group, program or project that BCN supports.
