A CERAMICS exhibition titled Staging Clay: ceramic vessels and objects will showcase works by 17 ceramic artists from the Surf Coast, Bellarine and the Otways from Wednesday November 14 (yesterday) at the Surf Coast Art Space.<\/p>\n
With artists including Pattie Beerens, Daniella Zimmerman, Dani Salvo, Fiona McDonald and Melinda Solly featured in the exhibition, the gallery\u2019s curator Sally Groom remains excited by the range of ceramics talent she\u2019s been fortunate enough to discover in the local community.<\/p>\n
\u201cStaging Clay will offer a clear example of the blurring of boundaries between art and craft, which has been happening since the 1960s,\u201d she said. \u201cCeramics have become an ubiquitous medium in contemporary art, with the technically focused craft tradition a parallel stream, sometimes merging with, sometimes diverging from the art world.\u201d<\/p>\n
Artists displaying their work range from the selftaught to graduates of TAFES, RMIT University and the VCA (Victorian College of the Arts).<\/p>\n
The exhibition will play host to a variety of dissimilar artforms, including sculptural installations, wall pieces and pot plants.<\/p>\n
Sentiment is deeply explored throughout the exhibition, particularly in artist Karen Steenbergen\u2019s project Milkshed, a series of tableware in tribute to Australia\u2019s dairy farmers who continue to face extreme financial hardship as a result of drought.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s also a special opportunity to meet the artists on Friday November 16 from 6pm until 7pm.<\/p>\n
