{"id":17502,"date":"2018-11-14T08:51:54","date_gmt":"2018-11-14T08:51:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=17502"},"modified":"2018-11-14T11:09:18","modified_gmt":"2018-11-14T11:09:18","slug":"labor-pledges-to-fix-bellarines-most-notorious-intersections-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/labor-pledges-to-fix-bellarines-most-notorious-intersections-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Labor pledges to fix Bellarine\u2019s most notorious intersections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A RE-ELECTED Labor Government will upgrade dangerous intersections in Ocean Grove and Curlewis to keep local drivers, cyclists and pedestrians safe.<\/p>\n<p>Labor will invest $5 million to build traffic lights at the intersection of Orton Street and President Avenue in Ocean Grove (meaning works at the intersection now have bipartisan support following Liberal candidate Brian McKiterick\u2019s pledge early last month) and at Hermsley Road and Curlewis Road in Curlewis.<\/p>\n<p>The Labor Government ordered a safety audit of the Orton Street and President Avenue\u00a0intersection in April, after local motorcycle rider Tyler Peace was seriously injured in a collision with a car.<\/p>\n<p>Labor will direct Regional Roads Victoria to begin design works on the intersection upgrade in December, if re-elected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have heard what the community has had to say about safety at these intersections, Regional Roads have done a safety audit to get this right, and now a re-elected Andrews Labor Government will fix them,\u201d Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville said.<\/p>\n<p>Labor will also fix the intersection of Hermsley Road and Curlewis Road in Curlewis, following a passionate community campaign for safety improvements.<\/p>\n<p>Traffic lights will be installed to make it easier and safer for Hermsley and Curlewis Roads motorists accessing Portarlington Road.<\/p>\n<p>Locals will get a chance to have their say on the upgrades through the design process.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement comes after Liberal Candidate for Bellarine Brian McKiterick pledged over a month ago that a Liberal Nationals government would put $1 million towards upgrading the Ocean Grove intersection.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A RE-ELECTED Labor Government will upgrade dangerous intersections in Ocean Grove and Curlewis to keep local drivers, cyclists and pedestrians safe.
