LOCAL mums are taking part in a soccer\u00a0program where they are having fun, meeting new people and learning basic football skills without even knowing it.<\/p>\n
FC Leopold kicked off \u201cSoccer Mums\u201d back in\u00a0August, and the program was such a success that the club launched two more programs.<\/p>\n
A four-week Wednesday program is running at The Estuary Reserve in Leopold until November 21 from 5pm to 6pm (cost $10), and there is a six-week Thursday program running at the same location until December 6 from 10am to 11am (cost $20).<\/p>\n
Senior Women\u2019s team coach Cath Sattler is running the soccer mum sessions, and is invited any local mums to come down and give it a go.<\/p>\n
Soccer mum Daniela Lagana said, \u201cI\u2019m a single mum, love to have a laugh and stay fit and trim while learning some fabulous soccer skills! I enjoy the social aspect and it\u2019s great to see such great support for us soccer mums too. Hopefully I\u2019ll be able to keep up with my kiddies while they\u2019re enjoying their soccer season!\u201d<\/p>\n
Treacey Dowd-Hamilton said, \u201cHaving been a \u2018Soccer Mum\u2019 on and off for 12 years, I was attracted to the Soccer Mums program because it\u2019s a non-judgemental, no-experience-necessary\u00a0outdoor activity where I can have some me-time, do some informal cardio exercise (gyms bore me) and try some soccer moves. Cath Sattler gently encourages us with simple but challenging drills, which brings out our competitive spirits and ends up in sharing lots of laughs\u201d.<\/p>\n
Tracey Gunby said, \u201cI enjoy soccer mums as it\u2019s encouraging women to be active at a low cost, while having fun and meeting new people\u201d, while Jude Budwilowsky said, \u201cSoccer mums means I can enjoy a sport like soccer in a relaxed and fun way. And we have a great coach who is so encouraging and supportive of all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kirsty said, \u201cI love playing soccer for the parents, whenever we play against our kids at Drysdale SC. An article about Soccer Mums in the FFV newsletter caught my eye and I hoped there was one in Geelong. I was very fortunate to join the program at Leopold and now I\u2019ve had a great time training with a wonderful group of women\u201d. Cindy Cook said she started soccer mums for some self-care activities, but got way more than that.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got to meet other great mums, exercise, have loads of fun and giggles,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Soccer Mums is a new initiative created by VicHealth, Football Victoria and Melbourne City Football Club.<\/p>\n
