BOB McFarlane has been described as a \u201ctremendous fellow and an inspiration to all at 13th Beach Golf Links\u201d.<\/p>\n
A member of the club for about 17 years, Mr McFarlane recently beat his age during the club competition for the eighth time.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had 40 on the front nine and 49 on the back nine, which made 89, and I turned 91 a couple of days later,\u201d Mr McFarlane said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI usually get anything between 95 and 100, but occasionally I get my age.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery now and then I have a good round.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr McFarlane \u2013 who has six children with his wife of 69 years Margaret, 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren \u2013 said he was feeling pretty good in regards to health and still played golf three times a week.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love my golf, I took it up when I was 50 and enjoy it immensely,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI joined 13th Beach about 16 or 17 years ago, not long after it opened, when Geelong disbanded a lot of us came here.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love the companionship and you meet a lot of nice people here \u2013 it just gets ya!\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr McFarlane said his best score was 79 when he was playing at Geelong.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat was my best score ever and I\u2019ve never done it again, it\u2019s not possible,\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very fortunate, I keep good health and I\u2019ll play as long as I can play.<\/p>\n
