G21 HAS updated its list of election commitments against the lobby group\u2019s list of priorities, and four of them have bipartisan support from the major parties.<\/p>\n
The board of G21 has identified 15 Priority Projects that will improve the G21 region (the five municipalities of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast, Queenscliffe, Golden Plains and Colac Otway) and benefit those living here.<\/p>\n
As of Wednesday, November 14, there is support from both the Labor and Liberal parties for four of the projects:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Armstrong Creek Growth Area \u2013 including the construction of a new secondary school and a fire station
\n\u2022 Geelong Cultural Precinct \u2013 the Liberals have pledged $500,000 for a business case looking at expanding the Geelong Gallery into City Hall, while Labor has pledged $128 million towards the third and final stage of the redevelopment of the Geelong Performing Arts Centre
\n\u2022 Great Ocean Road \u2013 both parties have pledged to create some kind of authority or agency to manage land along the coast, and
\n\u2022 Regional Rail Connections \u2013 Labor has pledged an overhaul of the Victorian rail network to deliver fast rail to the regions and more metro services, including updates to the express- Geelong lines to run fast trains; while the Liberals have pledged European-style highspeed rail by 2022 for the Melbourne-Geelong line and a travel time of 32 minutes.<\/p>\n
Labor has also made commitments to six other Priority Projects: Addressing Disadvantage, Central Geelong Revitalisation, Convention and Exhibition Centre, GMHBA Stadium Redevelopment, Portarlington Safe Harbour, and Regional Motocross Facility.<\/p>\n
The Victorian Greens have not yet made any pledges.<\/p>\n
