LOCAL not-for-profit organisation Geelong Mums is throwing open its doors to the public for the first time to host a Community Open Day on Sunday November 25.<\/p>\n
The Community Day has the dual purpose of inviting supporters and the wider community to tour the premises in South Geelong and to thank them for their part in all that has been achieved since the inception of Geelong Mums five years ago.<\/p>\n
The day will feature activities for the whole family \u2013 children\u2019s entertainment including face painting, gold coin donation animal farm, roving performers, along with sausage sizzle, cake stall, ice cream van and coffee cart.<\/p>\n
Tours of the Geelong Mums premises will be conducted by volunteers, and the warehouse will be operating to demonstrate how Geelong Mums rehomes safe and quality baby and children\u2019s equipment.<\/p>\n
Geelong Mums general manager Julia Roache is looking forward to showcasing the not-for-profit organisation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019d like to thank our supporters, donors and community for the support over our first five years and want to celebrate everything you have helped us achieve.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said Geelong Mums started five years ago as a small group of mums doing their bit for local families in need.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the first 12 months the operation was entirely a volunteer group working from a small shed and from their own homes with 300 families helped that year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe organisation has now grown to a network of more than 700 volunteers, working together with more than 400 social workers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the past 12 months we supported 6,173 babies and children experiencing hardship with over 16,811 items. That is the perfect reason to celebrate and it\u2019s a great time to thank our supporters for helping us achieve all of this.\u201d<\/p>\n
The open day will be held at 110 Balliang Street, South Geelong on Sunday from 11am-2pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
