All eligible Victorians now have access to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) with the scheme rolling out on January 1 in the last three remaining regions in the state.<\/p>\n
More than 50,000 Victorians are already getting access to the NDIS, with 10,000 of those receiving supports for the first time.<\/p>\n
Minister for Families and Social Services Paul Fletcher said the roll out in Goulburn, Mallee and Outer Gippsland allowed the NDIS to provide support to all of the state\u2019s eligible people with disability.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe NDIS is already empowering more than 208,000 Australians to have choice and control in how they live their lives.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe final roll out in Victoria will ensure people with disability have the support they need to achieve their goals.\u201d<\/p>\n
Assistant Minister for Social Services, Housing and Disability Services Sarah Henderson added the roll out in Victoria was an important milestone for the scheme.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday marks an important step for the NDIS, as we can now provide opportunities for people with disability across all of Victoria.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe NDIS is life-changing and this milestone ensures all eligible Victorians now have access to reasonable and necessary supports to ensure they can engage with and contribute to their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
The NDIS is expected to create more than 10,500 jobs and inject an additional $2.5 billion into the Victorian economy.<\/p>\n
Once fully implemented, the NDIS is estimated to support about 105,000 people with disability in Victoria and about 460,000 people nationally.<\/p>\n
