THIS year\u2019s Summer by the Sea program is off to a great start, with more than 850 people already participating in activities along Victoria\u2019s coastline in the first week.<\/p>\n
There are about 300 activities running across Victoria from January 2-26, giving people the opportunity to learn about their local marine and coastal environments.<\/p>\n
Summer by the Sea, now in its 24th year, allows people of all ages and interests to take part in fun, interactive activities, while showcasing all that Victoria\u2019s coastline has to offer.<\/p>\n
Coastcare Victoria co-ordinator Bec Cross said Summer by the Sea activities ranged from come and try fishing workshops in Mallacoota to estuary discoveries in Nelson.<\/p>\n
\u201cPopular activities so far have been family favourites, rockpool rambles and beachcombing.<\/p>\n
\u201cSnorkelling, stand up paddle boarding and learn to surf activities have also been a hit, with sessions booking out quickly right across Victoria.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re lucky the weather has been lovely, which has added to the great turnouts we\u2019ve had at activities so far.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said there was still plenty of time for people to take part in activities and learn more about their coastal environment.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a great way for Victorians to discover our beautiful coastline and diverse marine environment, all while participating in fun, educational activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cSummer by the Sea activities show people how we can all make a positive difference to the health of our coasts.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople with a disability who wish to participate in Summer by the Sea are encouraged to contact Coastcare Victoria via our website to discuss their requirements to take part in activities.”<\/p>\n
Summer by the Sea is supported by coastal land managers, community groups and conservation agencies across Victoria.<\/p>\n
Some activities are already booked out and places are filling up fast in others.<\/p>\n
