ST JOHN Ambulance Victoria is urging Victorians to keep alert and stay safe at pools, beaches and rivers across the state following a startling number of serious water accidents so early into the summer.<\/p>\n
Latest reports indicate ambulances have already attended numerous drownings and near-drownings this year, highlighting the urgency for Victorians spending time in water to brush up on water safety and first aid for drowning.<\/p>\n
Having provided first aid services to the community for over 135 years, St John offers water\/summer first aid training to keep people water safe, particularly during the summer months. St John chief executive officer Gordon Botwright said Victorians should prepare to be switched on in the heat.<\/p>\n
\u201cGiven we are experiencing warmer days consecutively, it\u2019s important we educate ourselves and those around us to prevent and manage common summer ailments.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople of all ages should be first aid ready to ensure they stay safe over the summer season.\u201d<\/p>\n
Given drownings can occur in as little as 30mm of water, St John Ambulance Victoria is calling on Victorians to be aware at pools, rivers, damns, beaches and bathtubs.<\/p>\n
