REPAIR Caf\u00e9 Bellarine is continuing to build momentum in Ocean Grove, with an enthusiastic group of people volunteering their time to support the initiative.<\/p>\n
Organiser Courtney Johnson said that at Repair Caf\u00e9 Bellarine, people could learn how to fix broken household items such as furniture, bikes, clothing or computers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the repair caf\u00e9, broken items are given a second life.<\/p>\n
\u201cVisitors learn that it is possible to make repairs and that it is not even as difficult as they thought.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said the caf\u00e9 was launched last year and continues to build momentum and raise awareness in the community of how the caf\u00e9 operates.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were fortunate to receive support through the City of Greater Geelong\u2019s Community Grants Program.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith this assistance we\u2019d be able to hold repair cafes throughout the year.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Johnson said the caf\u00e9 wanted to support one Ocean Grove resident to join the group as its \u201ctester and tagger\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe testing and tagging training is a one-day recognised course that may benefit someone with an interest in electrical repair.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got an enthusiastic group of volunteers together, all donating their time around this common cause.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a great feeling in the room and a lovely way to spend the morning.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s almost 10 years since the first repair caf\u00e9 started in Amsterdam, and the worldwide movement has now come to Ocean Grove.<\/p>\n
Repair Caf\u00e9 Bellarine is held every two months, with the next repair caf\u00e9 to be held at Bellarine Training and Community Hub on Sunday, February 10 from 10am.<\/p>\n
