GARDENS for Wildlife (G4W) is an exciting environmental initiative that is making its way to the Bellarine with the aim to increase habitat and food for our native wildlife.<\/p>\n
Bellarine Catchment Network are working with Ocean Grove Coastcare group to deliver this Ocean Grove specific Gardens for Wildlife program.<\/p>\n
This program is funded by the City of Greater Geelong and includes the assessment of local resident\u2019s properties for indigenous flora and fauna values.<\/p>\n
Following a garden visit, suggestions will be made to increase the wildlife friendliness of the property.<\/p>\n
Some ways to enhance the habitat of a garden include using natural mulch for insects, frog-friendly water sources, nectar producing plants to feed birds, clumps of native shrubs to protect birds and planting native flowers to encourage butterfly and bee activity.<\/p>\n
If you would like to encourage wildlife into your backyard, free garden visits will be held throughout February, March and April.<\/p>\n
