THE 11th EJ Whitten Charity Golf Day at Portarlington Golf Club has raised more tha $17,000 for men\u2019s health.<\/p>\n
Proudly supported by The Drain Man, 120 golfers enjoyed fantastic weather for a fun-filled day of golf, lunch and guest speakers.<\/p>\n
The event has now raised more than $107,000 for prostate cancer research and treatment.<\/p>\n
Participants in the golf day were also provided with the opportunity to undertake a general health check from a registered nurse while on the golf course.<\/p>\n
EJ Whitten Foundation chief executive officer Nick Holland said the Men\u2019s Health station positioned on the 13th hole carried out more than 100 health checks and was a very good way to promote men\u2019s health conversations with a health professional, as well as encouraging participants to take charge of their own health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n
The event raised more than $17,000 and these funds will contribute to the Foundation\u2019s education programs as well as research and treatment of prostate cancer, a disease which kills an estimated 66 men a week in Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n
The winning team included Ron Brentnall, Graham Willis, Tony Hargraves and Danny Quinlan. The winning team had such an enjoyable day they said they were already planning to defend their title in 2020.<\/p>\n
Special guest speakers were AFL great and EJ Whitten ambassador Campbell Brown, who spoke with passion about the cause and the highlights of his colourful career.<\/p>\n
Other ex AFL\/VFL players who enjoyed the day included Ken Fraser, Barry Davis, Val Perovic, Gordon Casey, Michael Osborne and Phil O\u2019Keeffe.<\/p>\n
EJ Whitten Foundation founder and executive director Ted Whitten thanked the Portarlington community that had continued to support the day.<\/p>\n
