COMMUNITY organisations across the region can get help to reduce their power bills through the federal government\u2019s Solar Communities program.<\/p>\n
The $5 million program – part of the wider Energy Efficient Communities Program – will support grants of up to $12,500 for eligible community organisations to apply for funding for small-scale solar energy generation and storage projects.<\/p>\n
Corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson said the Morrison Government understood community groups were struggling under the weight of energy bills.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s why we\u2019re taking strong steps to ensure they get the practical support that they need.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are investing in them, so they can invest in their local communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
Several community organisations in the Corangamite electorate have received solar grants, including Anglesea & District Men\u2019s Shed, several CFA stations, the Surf Coast Toy Library, the Victorian YMCA (Anglesea Recreation Camp), Torquay Christian Fellowship, St Luke\u2019s Anglican Church Torquay, Mount Moriac Tennis Club and the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club.<\/p>\n
Environment Minister Melissa Price said her government was committed to helping businesses and communities to play their role in a sustainable future for the environment.<\/p>\n
Organisations that can apply include community owned kindergartens, welfare centres, Men\u2019s Sheds, community centres, women\u2019s associations, country fire authorities, community owned child care centres, community football and netball clubs, Scout or Guide groups, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community groups, and surf lifesaving clubs.<\/p>\n
Through the Energy Efficient Communities Program, eligible small businesses will also be able to claim grants of up to $20,000, high-energy using businesses up to $25,000.<\/p>\n
