THE Bellarine Sewing Centre is giving back to the community by making 100 quilts in 100 days.<\/p>\n
During the past 27 years, centre part-owner Zoe Clifton has had the pleasure of sewing several hundred patchwork quilts, which have been used for shop samples, gifts and charity quilts.<\/p>\n
This has resulted in several boxes of leftover scrap fabrics, ranging from really small pieces to some slightly larger in size.<\/p>\n
It was when Ms Clifton was bagging up the scrap fabric to sell, and her thoughts of how much support her business had received throughout the years, that she came up with a fabulous idea to make 100 quilts in 100 days to raise money for charity.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs owners of Bellarine Sewing Centre, John and I know how lucky we are to receive such fantastic continued support from the local community,\u201d Ms Clifton said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWithout their continued support we would not be as successful as we are today.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is that realisation that helped us to reconsider our decision to sell off the scraps, so we have come up with a fabulous idea to make 100 quilts in 100 days and then sell these quilts to raise $10,000 for local Geelong charity Kids Plus Foundation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will be able to raise so much more money than simply selling scrap bags, and now to be able to give back to the community that supports us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Clifton said she had been busy recruiting a team to help with the cutting and sewing.<\/p>\n
