THE Lions Club of Portarlington Drysdale has raised more than $600 from its \u201cclosing the shed door\u201d sale, which will be donated to local charitable causes.<\/p>\n
Garden tools, children\u2019s toys, children\u2019s bikes and shopping bags filled with books walked out the door.<\/p>\n
Lions cashier on the day Paul Bellizia said the sale raised $638.65.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe usually raised about $300 at our monthly Op Shed days so this was a fantastic result, especially when the lot was going at super bargain prices.\u201d<\/p>\n
What\u2019s left will be offered to the Salvation Army.<\/p>\n
Club president Geoff \u2018Smithy\u2019 Smith said they didn\u2019t want to take anything to the tip because everything was generously donated to raise funds.<\/p>\n
Mr Smith said the Lions Club of Portarlington Drysdale was regularly asked to contribute to community projects.<\/p>\n
Funds raised are donated to local charitable causes, which cover a wide range of recipients, including junior sport, community organisations and the needy.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve raised the bar with our new Lions Port Market and closing the Op Shed frees up time for our volunteers to make the market even better,\u201d Mr Smith said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe encourage everyone to come to the market, it\u2019s bigger and better and there\u2019s something for the whole family.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Lions Port Market is on the last Sunday of each month at the Little Reserve in Newcombe Street, opposite the Portarlington Post Office, from 9am to 2pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
