PASSENGERS travelling on public transport in Victoria will soon have more opportunities to update and check their myki balance thanks to the installation of 40 new Quick Top Up and Enquiry Machines (QTEMs) across the train and tram network this month.<\/p>\n
Minister for Public Transport Melissa Horne announced the rollout of the new machines last week and said passengers will be able to top up their myki using a contactless payment system in a matter of seconds.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe installation of these fast, new machines is part of a wider program of works currently being rolled out to improve the overall travel experience for all Victorian public transport users.<\/p>\n
\u201cPassengers can top up in as little as 15 seconds using these machines \u2013 reducing that last-minute dash to the platform.\u201d<\/p>\n
Once installed, the QTEMs will be on top of 580 myki vending machines, 720 retail outlets and 83 premium stations on the metropolitan train network that also accept cash as payment.<\/p>\n
This week, Ms Horne also announced passengers with an Android smartphone will be able to use their phone to pay for travel on Victoria\u2019s public transport network as of 7am today (Thursday, March 28).<\/p>\n
Mobile myki uses existing myki gates and readers on Melbourne\u2019s trams, at train stations and on myki-enabled buses across Victoria.<\/p>\n
The new technology uses Google Pay on the Android operating system and allows passengers to travel with a Full fare, Concession, Child or Senior myki using both myki Money and myki Pass. For more information, head to ptv.vic.gov.au.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
