ARTWORK will revitalise a commercial precinct located at the northern end of Hesse Street in Queenscliff thanks to $10,200 funding from the council.<\/p>\n
The Borough of Queenscliffe has resolved to allocate the money to provide and install artwork to enhance the amenity and appeal of 20-26 Hesse Street.<\/p>\n
The private property has been vacant for a number of years and presently has a fence sealing the front of the property facing Hesse Street.<\/p>\n
The owner of the land has kindly given consent to artwork being placed on his property in an effort to revitalise the space.<\/p>\n
Borough of Queenscliffe mayor Bob Merriman said the ambiance of Hesse Street was fundamental to the vibrancy of Queenscliff.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis project will help the development of a more active central shopping area and could potentially lead to subsequent projects to further develop the street,\u201d Cr Merriman said.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil will continue to work with the community to undertake the project, including local designers, and where possible, include engagement with schoolchildren.\u201d<\/p>\n
While the land owner has generously offered his property for this purpose in the short term, the council recognises that ownership and use of land could change.<\/p>\n
Therefore, the artwork installation will be constructed in such a way that it is capable of being moved and re-used for community events.<\/p>\n
