IT\u2019S been a massive last weekend for the Torquay Boardriders Club with TBC\u2019s finest surfers headlining a star-studded field in the Kirra Teams Challenge at Duranbah beach, as well as the running of the third aggregate of the junior competition at Torquay Point.<\/p>\n
With a solid team, president Cahill Bell-Warren, vice president Harry Mann, and reigning open men\u2019s champion Tully Wylie, we\u2019re joined by former World Tour competitors Troy Brooks and Adam Robertson as well as former Rip Curl Pro Trials winner Jack Perry and up and coming star Indi White in a team that showed to be a formidable opponent for any team put in their way.<\/p>\n
In the small Duranbah surf, the team looked poised to make an impact and cause some upsets in the team format.<\/p>\n
The team started off their Friday in strong fashion with some good surfing, backing it up on Saturday and Sunday by achieving some strong numbers to win several of their heats and build a healthy score for the final tally.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, the final day of competition, it was some clutch heat wins by Troy Brooks and Adam Robertson getting two critical wins to lift the team into a third-place result behind Point Lookout (first) and Noosa (second). This is the best national result the club has ever achieved. An amazing feat that all members of the club should be super proud of.<\/p>\n
Well done to the team that went over and represented the club with pride.<\/p>\n
Saturday was a challenging day weather wise, but our juniors still managed to produce a great day of surfing.<\/p>\n
Our third junior aggregate for the year was held in contestable head height waves at Torquay Point.<\/p>\n
A big thanks to the Torquay Surf Club who allowed access to some of the club house facilities to provide some shelter from the wind and rain.<\/p>\n
The early rounds of competition enjoyed the best conditions for the day. We kicked off with the under 14s in offshore winds and high tide allowing for some great surfing. The under 12s then followed suit.<\/p>\n
The \u201cmicrogroms\u201d session started on the midtide at around 10am, just in time for the sun to break through, but unfortunately at the same time the wind strengthened and turned southwest.<\/p>\n
During the 60-minute session it was great to see all the surfers having a great time, with smiles to match. A huge thanks goes out to our older juniors who assisted the session, including Noah Clifford, Scarlett Curry, Mia Huppatz and Emily McGettigan.<\/p>\n
In the microgroms, the biggest charger award went to Nainoa Le Nevez, biggest frother and best turn went to Jake Cormack, best wipe-out went to Ned Murray and wave of the day went to Ollie Micallef. The Dough Bros vouchers went to Reef Knite and Nash Tucker for their great surfing.<\/p>\n
For the older divisions, Remy Filer and Anna Huppatz took out the U12 Boys and Girls divisions with some great surfing, as did Willis Droomer and Sara Hickson in the U14 divisions, surfing well beyond their years.<\/p>\n
The Rip Curl Outstanding Performance Award went to Jai Adams who surfed extremely well throughout the day, and the Quiksilver\/Roxy Most Adventurous Award went to Sara Hickson who exceeded in the conditions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
