U3A Surf Coast will host a guest appearance from Melbourne nun and human rights leader Sister Patricia Fox as part of its term two continuing program.<\/p>\n
Sister Patricia Fox, who worked as a primary school teacher and community worker before studying law at the University of New South Wales, dedicated a great portion of her life to working in the Philippines with some of the country\u2019s most vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n
In April last year, the Catholic nun was a delegate on a fact-finding mission to Mindanao (Southern\u00a0Philippines) in response to atrocities reported under martial law.<\/p>\n
Last September, the Philippines denied the renewal of Sister Fox\u2019s missionary visa after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered an investigation into her legal status as a missionary. She was deported back to Australia in November 2018 after spending almost three decades in the Philippines. Sister Fox\u2019s lecture is open to anyone in the\u00a0community who is interested to learn of her story.<\/p>\n
Non-U3A members are asked to bring a gold coin\u00a0donation which will be passed onto Migrante Australia.<\/p>\n
Nineteen regular classes and activities will continue from April 29 as well as the popular organ recital at St Luke\u2019s Church.<\/p>\n
