THE Surf Coast Basketball Association is looking to add dedicated female players to its all girls competition.<\/p>\n
With the new W19 season fast approaching, the association is hoping to go from strength to strength with its female side across all ages in a range of teams, including under 10, under 12, under 14 and under 16.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast Basketball Association\u2019s Craig Smith said past mixed competitions in the younger groups perhaps kept some local girls from selecting basketball as their chosen sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are confident that once we offer girls only games, the numbers will increase rapidly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo complement this, we will also be looking to offer a female only basketball academy in terms two and three.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the advantages for both boys and girls in the region now is that they can access qualified coaching and development pathways which filter down to us via Basketball Australia.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll we need now is to increase the female participation to fully take advantage of this.\u201d<\/p>\n
