THE Sheepwash Classic will celebrate 40 years this weekend when hundreds of locals hit the sand for Barwon Heads Primary School\u2019s biggest fundraiser of the year.<\/p>\n
A group of parents from the school started the fun run four decades ago, and unbelievably, in a town of 1,500 people, 418 people participated in the first event.<\/p>\n
Coordinator Sarah Jackson said the fun run became an off-road event eight years ago, when a new, spectacular course was developed.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe may be biased but don\u2019t think there is another fun run with a setting as stunning as ours,\u201d Ms Jackson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEach year during set up we have to pause to watch the amazing sunrise \u2013 it never gets old.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Jackson said the 40th Sheepwash Classic fun run would be held on Easter Saturday April 20 at 8am, and would feature an 8km run and 4km run\/walk.<\/p>\n
She said the event catered to most people, and that she saw people return year after year, as well alongside first-timers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe event has been a major fundraiser for the school and has contributed towards new playgrounds, air conditioning for the classrooms, new readers and landscaping,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe rely on volunteers to make the day work and have people return to help even when they no longer have a child at the school.\u201d<\/p>\n
