THE third annual Let\u2019s Kick Cancer game between Leopold and Grovedale will be held next weekend, with the Tigers keen to secure their first win.
\nLeopold Football and Netball Club will host Grovedale Football Netball Club for the fundraising event at Leopold Memorial Park on Saturday, May 4.
\nWith just over $25,000 raised for the Andrew Love Cancer Centre in two years, organisers hope it will be another ripper day.
\nTim Russell and his sister Tracey Quinlan, along with Sheridan Edsall and Brent Beer, are the driving forces behind the fundraising game, which will feature guest speakers, canap\u00e9s, merchandise, a major raffle, silent auction and the Let\u2019s Kick Cancer Cup.
\nTim came up with the idea after he and Tracey lost their mum Rosemary, 75, to cancer in August 2016, while both Sheridan and Brent also lost their mothers to cancer.
\nGuest speakers on the day include ex-AFL player and coach David Parkin and a representative from the Andrew Love Cancer Centre.
\nTracey said there were also some great raffle prizes and silent auction items up for grabs, including a meet and greet with Geelong Cats players Joel Selwood, Patrick Dangerfield and Gary Ablett, travel vouchers and a week\u2019s accommodation in Bali.
\nThe Lions will be wearing white socks and ribbons this year to represent lung cancer, while the Tigers will be wearing royal blue, which represents prostate cancer.
\nDuring the past two years, Leopold has taken out the Let\u2019s Kick Cancer Cups for both football and netball, but Tim said the Tigers hoped to turn that around this year.
\nTwo Geelong AFLW players will present the cups to the winning teams, while there will be an Auskick half time match during the seniors\u2019 game and a meet and greet with the AFLW players during the day.
\nTim said the event was a great way to raise awareness about cancer, while also raising some funds to help find a cure, while Tracey said it was also a good opportunity to talk to the younger players about cancer, who may not have been affected by the disease, either directly or through family or friends.
\n\u201cWe are so lucky to have the facilities we do in Geelong and to have the support,\u201d Tracey said.
\n\u201cWe have the wonderful Andrew Love Cancer Centre that do anything and everything, but you don\u2019t know about it until you go through it.\u201d
\nThe Let\u2019s Kick Cancer fundraiser is on Saturday, May 4 between noon-7pm.
