BELLARINE locals are invited to a workshop about new traffic lights at a notorious Curlewis intersection next week, which will boost safety and cut congestion for local drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.<\/p>\n
Regional Roads Victoria (RRV) is carrying out planning and design work in the lead-up to the installation of the new traffic lights at the intersection of Portarlington, Hermsley and Curlewis roads.<\/p>\n
The community is invited to meet the project team and work with them to build a safer and more reliable Portarlington Road at a community workshop hosted by RRV on Wednesday, May 1 at the Curlewis Golf Club.<\/p>\n
Bellarine MP Lisa Neville said the Andrews Labor Government committed $2.5 million to install the signals, which would make it safer for traffic turning out from both Hermsley and Curlewis roads, as well as providing added protection for vulnerable road users including pedestrians and cyclists using the nearby Bellarine Rail Trail.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re making sure this busy and dangerous intersection is safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians \u2013 as well as cutting congestion for the thousands of vehicles that use it each day,\u201d Ms Neville said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI encourage anyone who wants to learn more about this project or to provide their feedback to head along to this information session.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Neville said three crashes resulting in injuries had occurred in the past five years at the intersection, which caters to more than 30,000 vehicles per day, including rising numbers of heavy commercial vehicles.<\/p>\n
The workshop is in The Range Function Room \u2013 Curlewis Golf Club, 1345 Portarlington Road, on Wednesday May 1 between 6-8pm.<\/p>\n
