genU Training is teaming up with Torquay Football & Netball Club (TFNC) next month to educate its players, coaches and officials on mental health.<\/p>\n
With sporting clubs so often being the lifeblood of a town \u2013 a place where communities can band together through times of jubilation and hardship \u2013 having the knowledge of how to provide an open and supportive environment is crucial.<\/p>\n
The stigma around mental health has been gradually broken down over the last decade; therefore it is increasingly important that you know the practical skills on how to support an individual on their path to mental health wellbeing.<\/p>\n
TFNC are aware that a strong bond off the field can lead to greater success on it, and are confident of the benefits that Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training can provide.<\/p>\n
genU Training\u2019s MHFA course covers mental health in sport, raising awareness of depression and anxiety, and the effect of alcohol and drugs in sport.<\/p>\n
The two-day program offers participants the opportunity to develop the skills and confidence to recognise common mental health problems, provide initial help, seek appropriate professional help, and respond in a crisis situation.<\/p>\n
The course is aimed at players, club members, coaches, staff, officials, parents and community leaders.<\/p>\n
