LOCALS who want to dig deep into the diversity of their local communities will have the chance to do so this weekend during the sixth Sacrededge festival in Queenscliff.<\/p>\n
The Sacrededge festival, which is known as the \u201clittle festival with a big heart\u201d, will be held this weekend between Friday, May 3 and Sunday, May 5.<\/p>\n
Bookending the festival, Mojo Juju and Lior, are expected to wow audiences with their own ake on life experiences shared though their music.<\/p>\n
Between performances there will be opportunities to hear stories, poetry and music, see great local art, participate in workshops and sit in on discussions – all of which will focus on indigenous, refugee, LGBTIQ, mental health or environmental issues.<\/p>\n
Festival co-ordinator Kerrie Lingham said the Uniting Church was thrilled to be presenting a sixth year of stories, music and art.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo have the indigenous community, asylum seeker community and the LGBTI community all under the one roof is an enriching, heart-warming experience,\u201d Ms Lingham said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSacrededge is an actual experience of diversity rather than a talk fest about diversity.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is about people from different spiritual traditions, people who love ideas, justice, music and the arts, getting together and creating a community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe enthusiasm and generosity of the speakers, musicians and artists who share their story is a constant source of delight.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s such a privilege to host this event where people are safe to be themselves and discover a deep connection.\u201d<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s festival will introduce young local marine biologist Melanie Wells who will be detailing her childhood journey to becoming environmentally aware.<\/p>\n
The labyrinth in Citizens Park will be back again with a special candlelight walk being offered on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n
The theme for the labyrinth this year is \u201cocean abundance\u201d.<\/p>\n
Young people will be catered for with their own supervised activities, and child care will be offered on Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n
A delicious Arabic Iraqi meal on Saturday night is included in a weekend ticket.<\/p>\n
