AUSTRALIAN Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson and a bus load of media rolled into Curlewis this morning.
\nMr Morrison and Ms Henderson met with first homeowners Jacob Wilson, Millie Leahy and baby Freddie, and Maddie Hopgood, at their new Bowline Place abode.
\nMr Morrison took a guided tour of the house, spoke to the new owners about their plans and even shared a cuddle with Freddie, all before he and Ms Henderson faced the media.
\nMr Morrison announced on Sunday that a Coalition government would underwrite home loan deposits for first-home buyers, who cannot reach the 20 per cent that most banks require.
\nThe First Home Loan Deposit Scheme, adopted from New Zealand, would be available to first-home buyers who have been able to save for a deposit of at least 5 per cent and is expected to cut the time taken to save for a deposit for by at least half.
\n\u201cAs we go into the final week of this campaign, I made it the centrepiece of what I had to say on Sunday because nothing speaks to the aspirations of Australians like buying their own home,\u201d Mr Morrison said this morning.
\n\u201cI want Australians to know that when it comes to me keeping the promise of Australians, I understand what that promise is.
\n\u201cI understand that it is about fuelling and assisting you to realise your aspirations.
\n\u201cI\u2019m engaged in the economics of aspiration because I know when you really get behind people like the young families we have here and other places, and you really energise them to go after their dreams then Australia is only stronger.\u201d
\nMr Morrison said his economic plan was based on Australians being everything that they could be.
\n\u201cWhether you are a disabled Australian, you\u2019re in a remote Indigenous territory, whether you are here in a suburb on the Bellarine, or anywhere else around the country, your goal is my goal.\u201d
