WORKS on an all abilities walking track at the Ocean Grove Nature Reserve are progressing thanks to funding secured through the Victorian Government\u2019s Pick My Project initiative.<\/p>\n
Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA), with support from Parks Victoria and Envirotechniques have been laying granitic sand along a 3km stretch at the reserve, starting at the entrance and ending at the visitor information centre.<\/p>\n
A further access track loops around the dam and the new paths will provide access to the barbecue area and toilets at the Grubb Rd park, with an official opening slated for September.<\/p>\n
Geelong CVA Regional Manager CVA Mark Paganini said the works will allow greater access and enjoyment for all, and commended the Friends of The Ocean Grove Nature Reserve for putting the idea forward.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new paths will benefit everyone – from people in wheelchairs or with limited mobility, to families with children and prams so they can engage and relax with nature,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a free zoo here right on our doorstep where you can view echidnas, wallabies and other native wildlife up close, in an environment similar to what the Bellarine Peninsula would have looked like presettlement.\u201d<\/p>\n
