THE National Celtic Festival (NCF) is leading the charge in event waste management this year through a large-scale Wash Against Waste initiative and the use of manned Bin Hubs (as seen at the Queenscliff Music Festival).<\/p>\n
Together with vendors and community partners, NCF is introducing a no single-use plastic ethos at the event on June 7-10.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe encourage patrons to BYO cups, water bottles and bags to help us minimise waste at the festival,\u201d director Una McAlinden said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are looking forward to everyone’s support to enable the festival to be a pillar for future events.\u201d<\/p>\n
Patrons are encouraged to loan a Wash Against Waste kit (bowl, cutlery, cup) – during the event as all vendors will be stocked with these items rather than plastic single-use packaging. The initiative has been made possible due to funding secured through a Coastal Protection grant. A Barwon Water fountain and reusable cups will also be provided.<\/p>\n
The festival waste management is being run in conjunction with Caring For Our Bays, B-Alternative, Geelong Sustainability Group, Geelong Intrepid Landcare and Green Team Volunteers.<\/p>\n
