A NEW play using real letters from real people in prison will visit Portarlington Neighbourhood House this weekend.<\/p>\n
Presented by La Mama Theatre, To Lonely, with love, explores the act of letter writing and how the intimacy of the writtenword can bring light in the darkest moments.<\/p>\n
Words have actions and once on the page, they cannot be taken back.<\/p>\n
Compared with posting your thoughts and feelings fleetingly online, a letter is a deliberate and thoughtful means of communication, a piece of yourself floating in the in the ether hoping for connection.<\/p>\n
The play looks at those living in isolation and how letters can help bring two lonely people out of their own personal prisons.<\/p>\n
These real-life stories and characters are intertwined with outbursts of abstract pop culture moments told through bold and vibrant physical style.<\/p>\n
Co-creator Jennifer Monk is an avid writer and has a large store of letters including several exchanged over many years with people incarcerated both in Australia and overseas.<\/p>\n
The La Mama Mobile Program supports performers to take their show on the road and visit rural towns that might not normally have the opportunity to see live theatre.<\/p>\n
