WHILE the greater AFL community celebrated Sir Doug Nicholls round through all AFL games this past weekend, the Surf Coast Suns celebrated the weekend in their own way.<\/p>\n
Wearing their Indigenous jumper, the only club in the region to have one, the Suns U13s took on Leopold on the Grenville Oval in the Banyul Warri Sports Precinct.<\/p>\n
Leopold took the points in a terrific tight game, defeating the Suns 5.6.36 to 4.9.33.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe purpose of the jumper is to create conversation and awareness of local Indigenous sensitivities, and recognise the important history of Aboriginal Australia,\u201d club president Michael Thomas said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very proud to show where we stand as a club and teach our players about ongoing current events such as National Reconciliation Week and the establishment Victorian Treaty Advancement Commission.\u201d<\/p>\n
