ST Leonards will soon be a more attractive destination for locals and visitors, with stage one of streetscape improvements in the seaside town\u2019s main shopping precinct now under way.<\/p>\n
The City of Greater Geelong, with the support of VicRoads, is investing $40,000 to seal a gravel parking area, improve drainage and build new kerb and channel on the north side of Murradoc Road west of Blanche Street.<\/p>\n
These works are expected to be finished by the middle of June.<\/p>\n
Stage two of the project will see further upgrades and maintenance on Murradoc Road, from The Esplanade extending past the shopping precinct.<\/p>\n
This will include new street furniture and garden beds, plus pedestrian crossing works.<\/p>\n
Plans also include installation of a new town welcome sign and information noticeboard.<\/p>\n
Cr Stephanie Asher said St Leonards was a beautiful town and it was great to see Murradoc Road getting some love, after councillors took feedback on board from the local community.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe look forward to seeing the positive impact of this work once it\u2019s complete.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cr Jim Mason said it was important that all towns on the Bellarine got their share of maintenance and improvement, so as councillors he was very pleased to have secured funding for these important projects in St Leonards.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are always more proposed projects than funds available \u2013 we encourage communities on the Bellarine to stay in touch with us, and to be persistent!\u201d Cr Mason said.<\/p>\n
The council\u2019s proposed 2019-20 budget includes just over $400,000 in funding to deliver stage two.<\/p>\n
