TIPS and tactics for dealing with scammers will be discussed at a meeting in Portarlington next week.<\/p>\n
Organised by positive ageing advocacy group Staying-in-Portarlington (SIP), the meeting is open to all people, regardless of age, interested in becoming more savvy in protecting their banking details, personal security and identity from scammers.<\/p>\n
Gary Jennings, regional officer of Consumer Affairs Victoria, will speak at the meeting on Tuesday, June 18 between 2.30pm and 4pm.<\/p>\n
SIP president Jenny Wills said while scamming could and did effect anyone, older people could be more trusting and therefore more vulnerable to persistent scammers online, on the telephone or doorknocking in their neighbourhood.<\/p>\n
\u201cSIP therefore considers this an important issue to bring to the whole community.\u201d<\/p>\n
The meeting provides the opportunity for residents from Portarlington and nearby townships to raise any issues or concerns and to feel more confident in the future in identifying, avoiding and reporting scammers.<\/p>\n
